Regular readers of these articles or our newsletter, will know that the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 have been due an amendment. We originally posted on this back in November and you can read that article here.
The draft regulations have now been published and the commencement date is the 1st October 2022. As expected the regulations focus on the requirement to ensure that there is a Carbon Monoxide alarm in each room with an oil or gas appliance (except gas cookers) as well as the existing requirement to have one in each room with a solid fuel appliance. There is also some clarification around responsibility for maintaining in repair and working order all smoke and CO alarms, with the emphasis on the landlord to ensure they are in working order.

There is also confirmation that the Fire Safety Act 2021 is now fully in force and this affects Landlords where there are more than two domestic premises in the same building. For example two flats in one building. You can see more in our additional article.
